Everest Base Camp and Gokyo Lake Trek is an exhilarating loop trek that takes you to the spectacular Gokyo Valley, the high mountain pass of Cho La, and finally to Everest Base Camp. You will reach EBC via the less crowded and rarely visited Gokyo Lakes.
Feel the adrenaline rush as you ascend the Cho La Pass, Gokyo Ri, and Kala Patthar and find yourself surrounded by four of the highest mountains in the world – Mount Everest, Makalu, Cho Oyu, and Lhotse. The emerald Gokyo Lakes, the endless Nzogumpa and Khumbu Glaciers, the frozen Khumbu Icefall, and the awe-inspiring Himalayan panorama will keep you captivated.
Starting from Lukla, you take a slow ascent to Phakding and then to Namche Bazaar, where you spend an extra night for acclimatization. The journey takes you past an idyllic alpine landscape peppered with vast swathes of pine and rhododendron forests, thundering glacial rivers, waterfalls, and Sherpa villages with charming stone cottages.
After Namche, you leave the busy EBC trail and take the less traveled route to Gokyo Valley. Dramatic vistas open up as you trek above the treeline. At Gokyo Valley, you witness the world's highest freshwater lake system and experience Ngozumpa, the longest glacier in the Himalayas. You cross the Cho La pass, one of the three high passes in Khumbu, and enter the Everest Base Camp.
Your return trek starts with a sunrise hike to the viewpoint of Kala Patthar. Following the Imja River Valley, you traverse through the ancient settlements of Tengboche and Pangboche and finally retrace your steps to Lukla via Namche.
This 18-day adventure takes you on a walk that you will cherish forever. It is said that the mountains have a way of changing you, and we are sure that you will find a stronger and better version of yourself by the end of this trek.
The best months for the Everest Base Camp and Gokyo Lake Trek are from March to May and September to November.
The weather remains calm and stable during these months. The skies remain mostly clear, offering unimpeded views of the mountains.
